Dr. Horvath is a Master of Implantology and has been placing implants in his clinics since 1993.

He is recognised as one of the leading practitioners in Dental Reconstruction, Dental Implant Placement and Cosmetic Dentistry in Hungary.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are false roots which are inserted in the place of missing teeth. Screw implants are the most common of all types. Screw implants are made of titanium, as this is accepted by the human body.

When are dental implants applied?

Dental implants are used to replace one or more teeth without affecting neighbouring teeth. They can also support a bridge and eliminate the need for a removable partial denture. Dental implants may serve as support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable. Titanium implants also help preserve bone, so it’s worth getting implant treatment as soon as possible after losing a tooth.
Dental implants have been used in Hungary for over 20 years, with tens of thousands of teeth successfully implanted.

Who can get implants?

Anyone who needs a tooth or more teeth replaced and is in good general health can have dental implant. Proper mouth hygiene and cooperation with the dentist is crucial for the success of implantation. In case of insufficient bone, bone-augmentation surgery is carried out during or prior to the implantation itself.
The following conditions may seriously affect the success of the implantation: uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, cardio-vascular diseases, bisphosphonate therapy (for ostheoporosis), cytostatic and radiotherapy, bleeding disorders (during anticoagulant therapy the general surgeon’s approval is required). Alcoholism, drug addiction and heavy smoking may carry additional risks.

Placement of an implant (the procedure)

With the aid of a 3D scan, the position of the implant is determined then the implant of the right length and diameter is chosen. Surgery starts with the preparation of the soft tissues under local anaesthesia. A small-diameter hole (pilot hole) is drilled into the jaw bone in order to guide the titanium screw that holds the dental implant in place. In simple cases, a healing abutment is placed onto the screw, and open healing is applied. Closed healing is used when crestal bone augmentation is involved or the primer stability of the implant screw is not satisfactory.

(An abutment is a mezzo-structure that is placed onto the implant screw. Its exposed part above the gum supports a crown or a bridge unit).

Dr. Horvath applies his extensive skill and experience when drilling the pilot hole and sizing the jaw bone. Implantation typically requires a period of bone integration.

Post-surgery

Patients may experience minor discomfort, swelling and occasional pain. These can be treated with the relevant medicines. Dairy products (anything that contains milk, including chocolate, yoghurt etc.) and small seeds should be avoided for a few days following the surgery.

In general, after several months of bone integration and healing impressions of the implant are taken for the laboratory to allow prosthetic work to begin. The technicians choose the right permanent abutments for a given implant.

Immediate loading

Immediately loading dental implants with temporary teeth may be possible when the bone is of sufficient quality and several implants have been placed. In such cases a fixed temporary bridge is provided within 24 hours.

The benefits of dental implants

When a missing tooth is replaced by an implant the bone quantity is preserved, which prevents the bone from collapsing. Implants that are correctly planned and executed provide a lifelong solution.
Dental implants are stronger and more durable than their restorative counterparts (bridges and dentures). Additionally, implants may be used in conjunction with other restorative procedures for maximum effectiveness. Tooth replacement with implantation allows you to regain self-confidence, biting ability and a natural smile.
